Technically, “Frankenstein” is the doctor whose experiment goes so terribly wrong. His creation who runs amok is referred to only as “the Creature” in the novel.
Whatever you call him, this mad monster has appeared in more than 70 movies and cartoons. Boris Karloff played the most famous version in 1931’s “Frankenstein,” creating the bolt-necked, square-headed vision of horror that thrills and chills us to this day.
