World Bicycle Day

For many, it’s a rite of passage: The first time your parent took their hands off your bicycle and left you pedaling on your own. But bikes aren’t just kids’ stuff. Worldwide, they’re a major source of transportation as well as a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise. Here are three fun facts about these two-wheeled wonders:

  1. Worldwide, there are twice as many bicycles as cars. China alone has more than half a billion bikes.

  2. Tandem bicycles usually accommodate two riders, but the longest one recorded was 67 feet long and fit 35 riders!

  3. Looking for a bike-riding paradise? Check out the Netherlands! Dutch residents cycle an average of 559 miles per year, and 30% of all trips are made by bike.
